Noah Zarc Blog Tour - Review Post

Title: Noah Zarc: Mammoth Trouble: Book One
Author: D. Robert Pease
Page Number: 320
Genre: Middle Grade
Synopsis: Noah lives for piloting spaceships through time, dodging killer robots and saving Earth’s animals from extinction. Life couldn’t be better. However, the twelve-year-old time traveler soon learns it could be a whole lot worse. His mom is abducted and taken to thirty-first century Mars; his dad becomes stranded in the Ice Age; and Noah is attacked at every turn by a foe bent on destroying a newly habitable, post-apocalyptic Earth.

Traveling through time in the family’s immense spaceship, Noah, a paraplegic from birth, must somehow care for the thousands of animals on board, while finding a way to rescue his parents. Along the way, he discovers his mother and father aren’t who he thought they were, and there is strength inside him he didn’t know he had.

My Review: This was a surprisingly good read! I was a little hesitant at first because it's not something I would typically read. Especially it being more for a younger audience, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I'll admit I was a bit confused in the beginning because I didn't really understand what was going on, but as the story progressed it wasn't hard to follow. Though for me the story really picked up once Noah reunited with his father (not going to say where, don't want to ruin anything!).

The writing was good, I liked Noah's character development and Pease didn't fail to bore. Though some of the little "twists" were a little predictable I was still surprised. And I managed to laugh at some parts.

The minor problems for me would be the fact that Haon didn't really seem like a villian to me. I felt like he was more of a misunderstood, problematic character and not a villian. As well as Noah himself, yes he progressed as a character and he was 12 but there was something about him I didn't totally love. Maybe he was too younger for me? Too naive? Not too sure but I still enjoyed the story and book. Look forward to reading the next in the series!

My Rating: 3/5- Very much enjoyed!

D. Robert PeaseTHE AUTHOR

D. Robert Pease has been interested in creating worlds since childhood. From building in the sandbox
behind his house, to drawing fantastical worlds with paper and pencil, there has hardly been a time he
hasn't been off on some adventure in his mind, to the dismay of parents and teachers alike. Also, since
the moment he could read, books have consumed vast swaths of his life. From The Mouse and the
Motorcycle
, to The Lord of the Rings, worlds just beyond reality have called to him
like Homer's Sirens. It's not surprising then he chose to write stories of his own. Each filled with worlds
just beyond reach, but close enough we can all catch a glimpse of ourselves in the characters.

  2. You are right, Noah has some issues with "being"12, but don't all Tweens? :D I put his development differences to the fact that he did not grow up in a normal environment - his mom even mentions that maybe he needs to be around other kids once in a while.
    Nice review!

  3. This book is amazing! It is slightly above my kids' reading level, but it was still tons of fun for me. I love how it takes the story of Noah's Ark and interprets it in the future. It also teaches a lesson about how we are abusing the earth's resources and basically killing our own planet every day.
